Audi dealers will replace the 220V/240V cable and plug free of charge. The replacement will include a temperature sensor that can detect overheating. The recall follows a service campaign in which dealers changed the settings on the portable charger.
In documents filed with the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, the automaker says the recall only affects the 220V/240V compact/portable charging cable, and not the 110V home charging cable or the vehicle in general. Audi says it is aware of 615 warranty claims and no fires or injuries related to this recall.

Audi became aware of this problem in 2021 when reports of melting plugs surfaced. After investigation, it found that its cables and vehicles were not at fault. To address the issue, Audi added warning stickers to vehicles, advising customers not to charge at full power if their homes couldn’t handle it.
