Last month, Google announced that the latest update to Chrome (version 120) would be the last to support devices running Android Nougat or earlier. It was also revealed that Google Calendar would be making a similar move, no longer working on the older operating system. To put it in context, Nougat was originally released back in 2016, and was the version of Android that the first generation of Pixel phones were running out of the box.
Now, it appears that Android Auto is next in line to make such a move, according to new details in the latest update (version 11.0). New text in the app's code makes it clear that users will soon be notified of the need to update to a newer version of Android. According to 9to5google's research, Android Oreo will be the new minimum requirement.
In addition to notifications on your phone, Android Auto displays a similar alert on your car's infotainment screen. It says::
"To keep using Android Auto, install system updates."
So if you're on a device running Android Nougat or earlier, you should definitely consider upgrading to a new phone before Android Auto, Calendar, and Chrome stop working at their best.
