Toyota's global vehicle production reached an all-time high in November
Global sales — including that of subsidiaries Hino Motors Ltd. and Daihatsu Motor Co. — rose to 986,262 units, the most ever for the month of November. Worldwide production reached an all-time high at 1,067,446 units.
The world's largest automaker made and sold an unprecedented number of cars throughout the year, further cementing its dominance in hybrid cars as it pushes ahead with ambitious plans to mass-produce electric vehicles and catch up with Tesla and BYD, Bloomberg reports.
However, in addition to positive news, Toyota has some negative ones as well. Last week, Toyota faced challenges with its subsidiary Daihatsu, which was found to have manipulated crash safety test data since 1989. As a consequence, Daihatsu will halt the delivery of cars and parts until at least January. Daihatsu has announced compensation for all affected companies, though the total cost remains unclear.
