Geely and Baidu have unveiled the Jiyue 07, an innovative electric liftback, in China. This new model, slated for release in 2024, has earned the prestigious Red Dot Award for 2023.

Background and Development

Originally named Jiyue 02, the Jiyue 07 is a product of Geely and Baidu's joint venture, Jiyue. Formed in 2021, the venture encountered initial production challenges, leading to a renaming and restructuring. Geely now holds a 65% stake, focusing on manufacturing, while Baidu contributes software and technology expertise.

Design and Features

Inspired by the Jidu Robo-02 concept, the Jiyue 07 is a stylish mid-size liftback. It features a sleek design, a low beltline, and pronounced wheel arches. Unique to this model are button-operated doors, Y-shaped headlights, and a panoramic roof. It also includes an active spoiler and a distinctive single taillight unit. The car's aerodynamic design is further accentuated by its five-spoke rims with aerodynamic covers.

Accolades and Competitors

The Jiyue 07's design excellence is recognized with two major awards: the 2023 Red Dot Design Award and the iF Design Award 2023. It joins other notable recipients like the Peugeot 408 and Genesis G90.

Performance Specifications

The base model of the Jiyue 07 is powered by a 200kW electric motor and a 71.4kWh LFP battery. A more advanced 4WD version boasts a 400kW motor and a 100kWh NMC battery pack.

Autonomous Driving Capabilities

While the Jiyue 07 incorporates advanced cameras and radars for self-driving, it notably omits the increasingly popular LiDAR sensors.

Market Launch and Availability

Detailed pricing and full specifications are yet to be announced. However, the Jiyue 07 is expected to hit the Chinese market by mid-2024.
