Volkswagen's newly established Scout Motors brand, known for its electric truck and SUV projects, remains secretive about the names of these upcoming models. However, recent trademark filings offer clues to potential names, including various model variants and trim levels.

In 2023, Scout submitted 50 trademark applications to the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. These applications included vehicle names and slogans. Notably, some names hark back to the original Scout vehicles produced by International Harvester from 1961 to 1980, such as Scout 80, Scout 800, Scout II, Terra, Traveler, and Super Scout.

A report from Carbuzz reveals that Scout Motors also seeks to trademark names associated with special-edition models developed jointly by International Harvester and Custom Vehicles Incorporated. These names include Sportstar, Terrastar, Trailstar, and Travelstar.

Additionally, Scout Motors has registered several other names in 2023: Aristocraft, Baler, Forma, Harrow, Rallye, Scout Spirit, Scythe, Sno-Star, SR-2, SSII, Swather, Tellus, Terra, and Tresher.

While it's improbable that Scout will use all these names for its SUV and pickup variants, the diversity in nomenclature is refreshing, especially compared to the more common alphanumeric naming conventions.

Scout Motors plans to manufacture its pickup and SUV at a new $2 billion facility near Columbia, South Carolina, which will create up to 4,000 jobs. The production of these vehicles is slated to commence before the end of 2026.
