The new VW Magotan first appeared in images published by China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).

The 2025 Magotan is basically the new Volkswagen Passat sedan, which is sold only in China. In Europe and other regions, the Passat is now exclusively a wagon. These revealing images show that VW has made significant changes to the car's design compared to the global wagon, presumably to better suit Chinese tastes.

Compared to the European Passat, the Magotan looks boxier and has a traditional trunk lid. The taillight design and the extended light bar are inspired by VW's electric ID models. All versions shown here have the exhaust tip tucked under the bumper.

The matte black/gray painted car is the most expensive of the bunch and has "Flagship" lettering on the front doors, just below the side mirrors. It rides on two-tone wheels with an assortment of glossy black accents.

Accompanying the images are size and engine specifications. The new family sedan is 4,990 mm long, 1,854 mm wide and 1,487 mm high, with a wheelbase of 2,871 mm. It weighs 1,684 kilograms and is available with wheels ranging in size from 17 to 19 inches. It will be powered by a turbocharged 2.0-liter gasoline engine that produces 217 horsepower.
