BASF will oversee the entire recycling process for the lithium-ion batteries used in Iveco Group's electric vehicles, including vans, buses, and trucks, as stated in their recent agreement. This collaboration encompasses battery collection, packaging, transportation, and recycling in various countries, including France, Germany, and the UK.
Following collection, BASF will employ mechanical processes to transform the batteries into a black mass, enabling the extraction and recovery of essential raw materials like nickel, cobalt, and lithium for the production of new batteries. Notably, BASF recently inaugurated a battery material production facility and a battery recycling plant in Schwarzheide during the summer. The recycling plant is expected to commence operations later this year.
