At the Miami Boat Show, Honda unveiled its vision for a high-tech future, emphasizing electric motors and autonomous piloting.

Honda Marine, while still committed to internal combustion engines, is exploring electric propulsion with a pilot test of a 5 hp (4 kW) system in Japan. This system, akin to those used in their compact electric motorcycles, underscores Honda's tentative steps towards electrification in marine applications.

The pilot test is just the beginning. Honda plans to leverage its proprietary electrification technology across its small outboard motor range, hinting at a future where electric outboard motors are commonplace.

Innovations in technology are also on the horizon. Honda is developing a 360-degree surround view camera system to enhance safety by eliminating blind spots. This innovation, alongside advancements in autonomous docking and trailering, aims to alleviate common boating anxieties. These technologies are expected to debut in the coming years, with the Multi-View Cockpit system launching around 2025 and autonomous boating technology following in 2026.

Looking further ahead, Honda teases the potential for full auto piloting and advanced detection capabilities, both above and below water.
