The rear-wheel drive electric hatchback is comparable in power to the VW Golf R and has a whopping 545 Nm of torque for a car of this size.

The new Cupra Born VZ is the fastest and most powerful production model of the Spanish brand. "VZ" stands for "veloz", which means "fast" in Spanish.

The rear-wheel drive electric hot-hatch is powered by a 322bhp engine with 545Nm of torque. Compared to the previous most powerful version of the Cupra Born, power has increased by 94bhp and torque by 235Nm. This has reduced the acceleration time from 0 to 100 km/h by 1 second, to 5.7 seconds. Top speed is now limited at 200 km/h, instead of the previous 160 km/h.

In addition to increased power and torque, the Cupra Born VZ has received original 20-inch wheels with high-performance tyres, sharper steering, stronger brakes and a revised suspension. Battery capacity has been increased by 2 kWh to 79 kWh. Estimated range in the WLTP cycle is 570 kilometres.

Cupra offers the new Born VZ in Dark Forest or Midnight Black colour. Inside, it has a pair of bucket seats, which are not found in the younger versions of the model but are found in some Cupra cars with internal combustion engines, including the Formentor VZ5.

In the top-end version of the Cupra Born, the infotainment system screen is enlarged by 0.9 inches, to 12.9 inches. The touch-sensitive slider for climate and volume control is finally backlit. The VZ comes standard with paddle shifters that allow you to select one of three levels of energy recovery. For an additional cost, buyers will be able to get a 425W Sennheiser audio system with 10 speakers.

The Born VZ will go on sale in Europe in the third quarter of the year. An equivalent version of the Volkswagen ID.3 electric hatchback is also expected to debut in 2024.
