According to Bloomberg, Apple has scrapped its plans to produce an electric car known as Project Titan and is instead focusing on generative artificial intelligence.

More than 2,000 Apple employees involved in the project have been notified of its termination, unnamed sources told Bloomberg. The announcement was made internally by Apple's chief operating officer Jeff Williams and the vice president in charge of the project, Kevin Lynch. Some of these employees will move to Apple's artificial intelligence team, but others are expected to be laid off.

Apple started Project Titan in 2014. The original goal of the project was to create a fully autonomous car. Over the years, the Titan has transformed into a more conventional electric car similar to rival Tesla. Apple is even rumoured to have started collaborating with carmakers such as Hyundai and Toyota. The company has never officially confirmed the existence of Project Titan, but prototypes of Apple's autonomous driving car have even appeared on the roads.

Apple had planned to start selling its car in 2026, but then postponed the launch to 2028. A production model with autonomous driving on the highway was rumoured to cost just under $100,000. But now the iCar can probably no longer be dreamed of.
