The Tesla Model Y in an unusual two-seat configuration has been designed specifically for a tax loophole that entrepreneurs in France will be able to take advantage of.

Tesla has unveiled the two-seat Model Y with a boot capacity of 2,158 litres and a range of 565 km on the WLTP cycle. Thanks to this interior layout, the electric vehicle can qualify for commercial vehicle taxation in France.

"This eco-friendly and efficient solution offers an additional alternative for professional mobility, whether for transporting goods or as an ambulance," Clément Magee, Tesla's senior account manager for France, told LinkedIn.

The tax loophole for business owners in France requires that a commercial vehicle be used "in a professional context" and must be limited to two or three seats in the front and no seats in the back. There are effectively no restrictions on the scope of use.

The price of the new version has not been disclosed. The regular five-seat Tesla Model Y in France is available from 42,990 euros. In 2023, Tesla sold more than 37,000 copies of the Model Y on the French market.
