Gernot Döllner has announced a new entry-level all-electric model the size of the current Audi A3 (pictured above). The announcement was made at the company's factory meeting in Ingolstadt, Automobilwoche reported.
Currently, Audi's smallest electric model is the Q4 e-tron at 4,588mm long. By comparison, the fourth-generation Audi A3 Sportback is 4,337 mm long. Audi assigns even numbers to its electric cars, hence the novelty could be called A2 e-tron or A4 e-tron.
Specific dates for the appearance of a small electric Audi is not yet called. According to preliminary reports, it could happen between the arrival of the larger Q6 e-tron electric model on the PPE platform (2024/2025) and the brand's first models on the new SSP platform (2027/2028)
Automobilwoche also reports that the compact electric car will be based on Volkswagen's MEB platform. Series production will be organised at Audi's main plant in Ingolstadt. Production of the Q6 e-tron and A6 e-tron will also be organised there. From 2028 onwards, only all-electric vehicles will roll off the assembly line at this plant.
