According to Reuters, Leapmotor is set to start producing electric cars at its Stellantis plant in Poland this spring.

The Stellantis plant in Tychy, Poland, is currently producing the Fiat 500 with an internal combustion engine. In the first half of this year, production of the 500 is expected to end, leaving the plant with a vacant assembly line. According to Reuters, the empty space in Tychy will be occupied by the Leapmotor T03 electric car, which will be assembled from Chinese components.

The T03 is a compact hatchback about the same size as the Hyundai i10. In China, the range of the T03 with a 36.5 kWh battery is claimed to be 280 kilometres, but given the differences in test methods, the maximum WLTP mileage is likely to be less.

European prices of the Leapmotor T03 have not yet been confirmed. In China, the model costs from 65,800 to 75,800 yuan. This is approximately 8.5 to 9.7 thousand euros.

Production of the Leapmotor T03 was made possible after Stellantis acquired a 21 per cent stake in Leapmotor for $1.6 billion last October. The deal created a joint venture to promote low-cost electric cars outside China.
