Tesla is set to launch its RoboTaxi service on August 8, with the promise of revolutionizing transportation. Elon Musk, Tesla's CEO, announced the service will enable users to summon self-driving cars. Tesla aims to deploy its fleet in areas with high demand.

Elon Musk has long advocated for the shift toward self-driving vehicles. The concept, dubbed "Master Plan, Part Deux," outlines a future where Tesla owners can earn by adding their vehicles to a shared fleet. Musk mentioned nearly eight years ago, "You will be able to add your car to the Tesla shared fleet just by tapping a button on the Tesla phone app and have it generate income for you." This plan seeks to lower ownership costs, allow more people to afford a Tesla, and increase cars' economic utility.

Musk's enthusiasm is evident in his vision for the service. He claimed users could engage in various activities while traveling to their destinations. “Once it picks you up, you will be able to sleep, read or do anything else en route to your destination.” Additionally, he reassured potential users about the accessibility of the service: “You can always hail a ride from us no matter where you are.”

Despite Musk's ambitious plans, his history of delayed promises casts some doubt on the timely delivery of this project. For instance, the much-anticipated second-generation Roadster was revealed in 2017 but has yet to launch.
