Chinese automaker BYD is preparing to enter the global pickup truck market with its latest model, the BYD Shark. Mexican outlet AutoDinámico captured the Shark free of any camouflage on the streets of Mexico City.

The truck's square headlights and big BYD logo make it look tough. The taillights are connected by an LED strip, and the big BYD logo is on the tailgate.

The Chinese automaker will make the pickup truck's global debut in Mexico in the coming weeks. The plug-in hybrid vehicle will have a gasoline engine and two electric motors. BYD Mexico CEO Jaime Vallejo said the truck will have 480 hp and go over 1,100 km.

In the global market, BYD Shark's main competitors will be models such as the Ford Ranger as well as the Toyota Hilux. If the new model appears in the United States, it will enter the segment of Chevrolet Colorado, Ford Ranger and Toyota Tacoma.

The BYD Shark will debut at the Beijing Motor Show this week. It will be sold in China first, but BYD cars are also sold in Mexico. The company wants to sell more cars in Mexico and is gradually adding more models.
