BYD introduced its new Shark plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) in Mexico. The pickup combines performance with features like a karaoke machine. With over 430 horsepower and a moderate price compared to American counterparts such as the Chevrolet Colorado, the BYD Shark seeks to carve out a niche in the competitive pickup market.

The design of the BYD Shark draws inspiration from popular models like the Ford F-150 Lightning. It features a prominent BYD grille, vertical headlights, LED contour lighting, and an array of other stylish details including roof rails and 18-inch alloy wheels. Measuring slightly longer than both the Chevrolet Colorado and Ford Ranger, it successfully merges style with substance.

It boasts a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster, a large rotating infotainment system compatible with both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, voice recognition capabilities, and a unique karaoke option complete with an optional handheld microphone. Technological advancements extend to digital key technology and 50W wireless smartphone charging.

BYD didn't say much about the truck's plug-in hybrid powertrain, but it apparently has a turbocharged 1.5-liter engine. This gives the model more than 430 horsepower and a 0-62 mph time of 5.7 seconds. The truck can travel 62 miles (100 km) on electric power alone in the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC). When the battery is low, it can go from 30% to 80% charge in just 20 minutes.

The Shark boasts noteworthy capacities with up to 1,841 lbs for payload and over 5,512 lbs for towing combined with independent front and rear suspension systems for robust handling. Advanced safety features---such as Adaptive Cruise Control and Automatic Emergency Braking---further enhance its appeal amongst safety-conscious drivers.

Priced at $899,980 MXN ($53,427 USD), it offers a cost-effective alternative being notably cheaper than competitors such as Chevrolet Colorado by approximately $4,180 USD.
