After being discontinued late last year, the Chevrolet Camaro might make a comeback as an electric vehicle (EV) priced a sub-$30,000. This potential relaunch aligns with GM’s goal to transition into an all-electric car company.

General Motors faced challenges in 2023 but remains optimistic about its future with upcoming EV models like the Chevrolet Equinox EV and Silverado EV RST currently reaching consumers. Amid these releases, there are speculations about a new battery-powered Camaro that could hit the market in the next couple of years.

Mark Reuss, GM president, emphasized in an interview with MotorTrend that this new Camaro would be aimed at a broader audience and not just hardcore enthusiasts. The proposed pricing for the Camaro EV seems competitive as it's projected to be on par with the entry-level Chevrolet Equinox EV.

The new electric Camaro could also qualify for a $7,500 federal tax credit, potentially reducing its price to around $27,500. This makes it significantly more affordable compared to Tesla Model 3's entry-level price, which is roughly $11,500 higher with no eligibility for the federal tax credit.

GM is reportedly enhancing the production capabilities of its Ultium battery cells to overcome past production delays impacting other models like the Chevy Blazer EV and Silverado EV. No official confirmation has been provided yet for the release date of the Camaro EV; however, rumors suggest it might be launched by 2026.
