The Skytop Concept combines classic styling with modern elements and is based on the 8 Series platform, potentially hinting at a new convertible variant.
The design details of the BMW Skytop Concept are eye-catching. From the exterior, the car features a long nose, shark-nose front bumper, wide kidney grilles, two hood vents, and a unique split-window boat-tail style rear. These elements point to a gas-powered engine underscored by dual oval exhaust pipes. Inside, the vehicle boasts deep red upholstery with luxurious finishes and innovative features like two removable targa top roof panels.
Some details make this car look like it might be closer to production than an everyday concept. As the BMW blog points out, it has side mirrors, a rearview mirror, and even a tow hook cap in the front bumper. Hopefully, these are all signs that BMW is moving in this styling direction, even if it doesn't build these cars for the public.
The formal debut of the Skytop Concept is set for May 24-26 during the prestigious Concorso d'Eleganza Villa d'Este event. Here it will be showcased alongside BMW's M Hybrid Art Car as well as several historic classic cars from the marque's storied past.
