BMW introduced the Concept Skytop at Villa d'Este. This two-seater coupe, derived from the 8-Series but with no roof, blends elegance with historical nods to past models like the BMW Z8 and 503.

Adrian van Hooydonk, Head of BMW Group Design, shared his insights at the event. He stated, "The BMW Concept Skytop is a truly unique and exotic design, in the tradition of the Concorso d’Eleganza Villa d’Este. It offers a combination of driving dynamics and elegance at the highest level, comparable to its historic ancestors, like the BMW Z8 or BMW 503."

The Concept Skytop's design elements are inspired by notable predecessors. The early 2000s BMW Z8 influenced its thin taillights and sharknose front end. From the late 1950s, the BMW 503's sculpted hood, small headlights, and unique flat-decked rear end are evident.

Underneath its striking exterior, the Concept Skytop is based on the powerful M8 Competition model. It features a 4.4-liter V-8 engine producing 620 horsepower. The car likely employs an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive system.

The interior of the Concept Skytop matches its luxurious externals. It combines components from the current 8-Series such as a digital gauge cluster and infotainment screen with leather-clad seats and steering. Unique features include a bespoke roll bar with power-retractable window and a manually removable two-piece roof.

While the Skytop is likely production-based, we doubt it'll ever actually see an assembly line.
