Sweden is supporting Ukraine with a completely new capability that strengthens Ukraine's combined air defense. The package, which will be included in a forthcoming supplementary amending budget, is worth SEK 13.3 billion, according to the Swedish government.
Sweden is donating the entire Swedish stock of Pansarbandvagn 302 (Pbv 302) to support the building of new brigades of the Ukrainian Army. This donation includes spare parts, maintenance equipment and ammunition.
The donation causes a temporary decline in the Swedish defense capability and therefore a replacement procurement of another shrapnel-protected vehicle is carried out.
In addition, Sweden will donate radar reconnaissance and control aircraft (ASC 890) to Ukraine to strengthen Ukraine's air defense capabilities. The country is also donating artillery ammunition and providing funds for the maintenance of previously donated equipment.
Pansarbandvagn 302 (Pbv 302)
The Pansarbandvagn 302 tracked infantry fighting vehicle was developed by Haglund & Söhner in the 1960s. The Swedish Army began using it in 1966, and a total of 644 vehicles were produced.
By the standards of the 1960s, the PBV 302 was equipped with a powerful weapon in the form of a 20mm HS804 automatic cannon.
