Cadillac is set to start production on a new SUV model, the Optiq, later this fall. The Optiq is a mini SUV with an impressive range of 300 miles on a single charge and a setup delivering 300 horsepower.

Positioned as a smaller companion to the Cadillac Lyriq, the Optiq draws comparisons in size to the Chevy Equinox EV. Priced at an estimated $54,000 starting point, it features all-wheel drive as standard and will roll out equipped with Cadillac's renowned Super Cruise driver assist system.

Both the Optiq and its Chevy counterpart can also charge at the same 150-kilowatt DC fast-charging speed. Their torque figures are similar as well; 354 pound-feet for the Optiq and 333 pound-feet for the Equinox.

The Optiq stands out not only for its power but also for its eco-friendly interior. Inside, passengers will find seats upholstered in 100% recycled yarn and dash accents made from a blend of newspaper and tulip wood. The vehicle boasts a spacious 33.0-inch diagonal screen and comes standard with a 19-speaker sound system.

Design-wise, the exterior of the Optiq is inspired by the larger Cadillac Lyriq but reflects unique elements akin to the Escalade IQ. Its scaled-down design does not skimp on premium touchpoints such as geometric ornamentation visible on its rear quarter glass.

As Cadillac embarks on this venture with Optiq’s introduction into their lineup later this year, they mark it as their first vehicle where Super Cruise technology—a hands-free driving aid—is standard across all models.

Cadillac estimates the starting price at $54,000. Production of the electric crossover will begin later this fall, with vehicles likely arriving at dealers soon after.
