Ford has registered its Ranger Raptor for the upcoming Finke Desert Race, Australia's most challenging off-road event. The race will begin and end in Alice Springs, spanning 285 miles (458 km) across the rugged terrain from June 9-10, 2024.

The US automaker aims to outperform last year’s effort and claim victory in the 'Production 4WD' category. Behind the wheel are veteran drivers Brad Lovell and Byam Lovell. they took first place in the Production 4WD category but fell short of the overall victory. The senior Lovell was also part of the team that drove this exact truck in the 2022 Baja 1000, where it also won its class.

In preparation for this demanding challenge, Ford has made several modifications to the Ranger Raptor. These include enhanced suspension calibration adjusted specifically for the race's speed demands, as compared to those during Baja 1000. Key additions include a front skid plate, snorkel intake for better water crossing capability, auxiliary lights for superior visibility, sport seats at the front and a roll cage.

Notably, many of Ford Ranger Raptor’s original components remain intact such as the 3.0-liter V6 twin-turbocharged engine and 10-speed automatic transmission, underscying its production-based capabilities. The stiff competition includes tough rivals like Chevrolet Silverado ZR2 and Toyota Land Cruiser 76-Series which both compete in the same vehicle category.
