The Department of Transportation's Inspector General and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives investigated the incident. They gathered critical evidence including radar data and text conversations where Choi discussed plans for the stunt.
During the event captured in the video titled "Destroying a Lamborghini with Fireworks," Roman candles were fired from a helicopter at a Lamborghini Huracán. The involved pilot has since lost his license due to this incident.
The legality of the fireworks used poses another issue; while purchased legally in Nevada, their use was illegal in California where no permit had been obtained for the activity.
Drone operators present during the stunt expressed that they tried to maintain a safe distance from the helicopter and described a spontaneous safety meeting led by Choi before filming started.
Choi described his idea as "an attack helicopter shooting missiles at the car, while the car tries to run away and dodge them using flares."
According to authorities, Choi could face up to 10 years in federal prison if convicted.
