Since January 2022, spy photographers have been capturing images of the M5 prototypes which display a range of aggressive design elements. These include a pronounced front lip, angular air intakes at the front, sporty side skirts, and a robust rear with a four-tailpipe exhaust system.
BMW is keeping details secret, but Chairman Oliver Zipse said the sedan will be launched first, followed by the Touring. The latter will be offered in the United States for the first time.
Under the hood, the new M5 will come equipped with a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V8 engine paired with an electric motor integrated into an eight-speed automatic transmission. This setup is supported by a lithium-ion battery pack allowing an electric range of up to 70 km (43 miles). This setup gives the crossover a combined 738 hp (550 kW / 748 PS) and 1,000 Nm (738 lb-ft) of torque.
