Elon Musk has announced a possible ban on Apple devices in his companies following recent technology updates unveiled at Apple's Worldwide Developers Conference 2024.

The aggravation of relations between Elon Musk and Apple occurred shortly after the latter announced the integration of ChatGPT from OpenAI with the Siri voice assistant in its gadgets. Musk took this idea extremely negatively. The head of Tesla and SpaceX wrote in the social network X (former Twitter) that adding artificial intelligence elements to mobile devices violates the security of user data.

At WWDC 2024, Apple unveiled an update to its iOS operating system. The list of new features includes UI improvements as well as the addition of the ChatGPT chatbot to Siri. Apple has given this integration its own name, Apple Intelligence. When a user gives Siri permission, the smart assistant can use ChatGPT to answer complex queries that can't be handled on the device.

"Apple has no clue what’s actually going on once they hand your data over to OpenAI," Musk said. "They’re selling you down the river." He went on to write that he is concerned about Apple's partnership with third-party AI that Apple "doesn't understand" and "can’t themselves create."

Apple says the agreement to send data to OpenAI involves several measures to protect user data. Including obfuscating users' IP addresses and ensuring that no data is stored on OpenAI's servers.

"If Apple integrates OpenAI at the OS level, then Apple devices will be banned at my companies. That is an unacceptable security violation.", Musk added.

Adding spice to the billionaire's outrage is the fact that Elon Musk was originally a co-founder of OpenAI. Later, he left the company and sued it, claiming it had betrayed its original mission to open source and develop artificial intelligence for the benefit of humanity. He also had a public feud with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman, and has clashed with Apple CEO Tim Cook in the past.
