BYD has announced the UK pricing for its new Seal U plug-in hybrid SUV. This vehicle marks BYD's entry into the European plug-in hybrid market, aimed at providing a bridge for consumers easing from traditional fuel vehicles to electric models.

The Seal U, a five-seater D-segment SUV, will be available with front-wheel and all-wheel drive options at starting prices of £33,205 and £39,905 respectively.

The Seal U combines a regular petrol engine with an electric motor and a battery pack to minimize fuel consumption while enhancing driving efficiency. Specifically designed for those transitioning towards electric vehicles, the Seal U offers performance close to that of pure electrics.

The vehicle is available in multiple versions; each catering to different customer needs. The front-wheel-drive option's boost grade includes an engine with 98 horsepower paired with a 197 horsepower electric motor powered by an 18.3kWh Blade battery, totaling 218 horsepower output. It boasts a significant electric-only range of up to 49.7 miles and a combined range of over 671 miles per charge.

The all-wheel-drive variant ups the ante with dual motors (front and rear) that collectively deliver 324 horsepower and a torque of 550 Nm. Its battery provides up to 43 miles of electric-only travel with overall mileage reaching around 540 miles per charge. Notable is its acceleration—0 to 62 mph in just 5.9 seconds.

Users can replenish their batteries from thirty to eighty percent in approximately thirty-five minutes under optimal conditions through both AC (up to 11 kW) and DC (up to 18 kW). Innovative features like Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) functionality mean the SUV can also power electrical devices directly.

The interior does not skimp on luxury despite its eco-friendly pitch, featuring vegan leather seats, multi-color ambient lighting, a large rotatable touchscreen display among other high-end attributes like a panoramic sunroof and intelligent voice control systems.

The BYD Seal U DM-i comes with a standard six-year/93,750-mile full manufacturer's warranty, an eight-year/125,000-mile warranty on at least 70% of the original battery capacity, and an eight-year/93,750-mile warranty on the electric motor.
