American carmaker Saleen is developing a prototype of a hydrogen supercar. The new car will be powered by a twin-turbocharged V6 hydrogen engine developed in partnership with French engine manufacturer Solution F.

Details about this new car are scarce. Founder and CEO Steve Saleen says that the supercar will be powered by one of the hydrogen twin-turbocharged V6 engines from the Solution F. Once the car is ready, it will begin to be shown at events in the United States.

"We believe the long-term solution for transportation will be multi-faceted where hydrogen and synthetic fuels are the future in environmentally friendly engines," Steve Saleen says in the press release, "while still offering the ultimate in performance, and traditional fueling convenience."

Solution F is a small-series specialised engine and transmission manufacturer. The company says it has "unique expertise in the production, assembly, development and operation of prototype and small series vehicles." In its nearly 40 years of existence, the company has developed expertise in motorsport, aerospace and sustainable transport.

The most significant part of that resume for Saleen appears to be the Foenix H2 hydrogen racing car. This car is powered by a 6.2-litre hydrogen turbo V8 engine that produces 612bhp. This powertrain emits only water vapour and a small amount of nitrogen oxides into the atmosphere.

Saleen says that its own hydrogen sports car will be demonstrated closer to the end of 2024.
