Mercedes-Benz has announced that 200,000 of its vehicles across Europe will receive a crucial update that includes the Automatic Lane Change (ALC) function. This over-the-air (OTA) update will start in September and will be available in 33 European countries.

The ALC feature is a new addition to the Driving Assistance Plus Package on models equipped with this technology.

The Automatic Lane Change function allows equipped Mercedes-Benz models to autonomously change lanes on motorways that have at least two separate lanes. The speed range for this feature is between 80 km/h and 140 km/h. It operates through the MBUX system or the Mercedes me app and integrates with Active Distance Assist Distronic using radar and cameras to ensure safe maneuvering.

The models eligible for this update include popular names like the C-Class, E-Class, S-Class, GLC, CLE, and several electric variants like the EQE and EQS SUVs. All current E-Class, CLE Coupe, CLE Cabriolet models, among others built from January 2023, are eligible for this update.

OTA updates will use the vehicle’s built-in mobile connection facilitating easy and convenient upgrades without physical assistance. This feature rollout In Europe follows its availability in North America and China.

Markus Schäfer, a board member at Mercedes-Benz, emphasized the significance of this step: “With the Automatic Lane Connection function, Mercedes-Benz is once again demonstrating its innovative strength in the development of new driving assistance systems.”
