Automotive News has received information from an anonymous person in the supply chain who claims that BMW is planning to revive the 6 Series. At the same time, the 8 Series will be discontinued.

The source claims that the new 6 Series will arrive in the second half of 2026, just after the 8 Series has finished production. The revived 6 Series looks set to fulfil the same role as its big brother, with BMW allegedly introducing it in coupe and convertible form.

The new version of the BMW 6 Series will reportedly be based on the CLAR platform, which can be powered by petrol, hybrid and battery-electric powertrains.

At the same time, BMWBlog reported, citing its own sources, that the company has no plans to reintroduce the 6 Series to the market yet. A BMW official told Motor1 that the company has no plans to reintroduce the 6 Series to the market in 2026, despite the fact that this information is widely discussed in automotive media circles.

Recall that the third generation of the BMW 6 Series consisted of the BMW F12 (two-door convertible version), BMW F13 (two-door coupé version), BMW F06 (four-door Gran Coupé version) and Grand Tourer. The F12/F13/F06 generation was produced from 2011 to 2018. And the BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo (G32) was produced from 2017 to 2023.
