Electric car maker Fisker is effectively dead, but continues to honour its commitments to customers. The company is recalling 12,523 Ocean crossovers in Europe and North America due to a problem with door handles.

The recall affects Ocean electric cars from the 2023 and 2024 model years due to a "problem" with the exterior door handles. The company is not disclosing technical details at this time, limiting the information to the fact that the handles may be stuck due to a faulty mechanism.

As part of the recall, technicians will check all four side door handles using a special tool from the manufacturer. Any handles that do not meet "safety and operating standards" will be replaced at no cost to Fisker Ocean owners.

Fisker estimates the defect occurs in only about 2.5 percent of Ocean vehicles.

Fisker customers will be notified of the repairs by 30 August. A total of 8,204 vehicles in the U.S., 3,806 in Europe and 513 in Canada are being recalled.

Fisker Ocean owners may want to act quickly, as Fisker recently declared bankruptcy and is looking to sell off its assets.
