If the ball joint does disengage, a snap ring will keep it connected to the link, but vertical movement could corrode the lower link and lead to separation. The faulty parts were made by Yorozu Automotive in Alabama, and Nissan is recalling 5,929 Frontiers built at its Canton plant between January 29, 2024, and March 4, 2024.
The supplier noticed the problem on March 1, 2024, during a routine evaluation. They found that 10,036 faulty parts were produced on an incorrect stamping die and installed on 9,664 assemblies shipped to Nissan.
Nissan has not reported any accidents or injuries related to this issue and has not received any market reports about it. U.S. dealerships were informed of the recall on June 28, 2024, and owners will be notified from August 15. Dealers will replace the front right-hand lower link, a repair that takes about 2.5 hours and will be free of charge.
