Unlike the Vision Neue Klasse Concept sedan, hinting at the electric 3 Series, and the Vision Neue Klasse X Concept, previewing the next-gen electric X3, the new prototype is a two-door coupe with styling cues reminiscent of the iconic M1.
The spy shots reveal a sporty electric coupe with proportions and design elements from the earlier Neue Klasse concept cars. The front end echoes the legendary M1 supercar, while the raised rear end and sloping roofline create a wedge shape. The futuristic design features narrow LEDs and an illuminated kidney grille.
It's unclear where this Neue Klasse coupe fits into BMW's lineup, but it appears to be a smaller model, possibly positioned above the Neue Klasse-based 3 Series. This 3 Series variant is nearing the end of its development and is expected to start production next year.
One notable detail from the prototype is the unconventional brakes behind the unique wheel design. These don't resemble traditional disc brakes, suggesting they might be hub-mounted motors or part of the electric drivetrain BMW has been developing.
The idea of a BMW supercar has been a long-standing dream, especially since M Boss Frank van Meel mentioned to CarBuzz that a super sports car is always a possibility. With the recent decline in BMW XM sales and no successor in sight, it might be the perfect time for BMW to introduce a proper M1 successor – potentially an electric supercar with up to 1,340 horsepower.
