Honda has confirmed that the production version of last year’s Prelude Concept will be released in Europe. To build anticipation, the automaker is showcasing it at this month's Goodwood Festival of Speed.

The latest images reveal a red coupe, contrasting with the original white concept, displayed alongside a first-generation 1979-82 Prelude. Honda promises that the first new Prelude in 30 years will blend driving enjoyment with efficiency through a hybrid drivetrain.

While specific details about the petrol-electric powertrain haven't been disclosed, recent reports from Japan suggest it might share the same e-HEV powertrain as the Civic and US-market Accord hybrids. These vehicles use a 2.0-liter Atkinson cycle petrol engine paired with two electric motors.

Honda's chief engineer, Tomoyuki Yamagami, emphasized the significance of the new Prelude in Honda's hybrid journey, noting that it builds on 25 years of hybrid research and development, starting with the first Honda Insight hybrid in 1999. He added that the Prelude underscores Honda's commitment to hybrid powertrains as a crucial part of its electrification strategy, aiming for 100% of new vehicle sales to be battery electric or hydrogen fuel cell by 2040.

The Prelude Concept debuted at the Japan Mobility Show last October and was later showcased at the LA Auto Show in November. This appearance hinted at a possible US release, though North American availability hasn't been confirmed yet.
