Volkswagen Argentina has unveiled the first official photo of the updated Amarok for the South American market, an extensive facelift of the original pickup truck launched in 2009. Production has already commenced at the Pacheco Industrial Center in Argentina.

Though referred to as the third-generation VW Amarok, this model is essentially a significant update of the first generation. The second-generation Amarok, sharing its platform with the Ford Ranger, is already available in Europe and Australia.

The newly released image showcases the South American-spec Amarok’s design, revealing substantial updates, especially at the front end. The truck’s profile remains largely unchanged, but the front features a modern redesign with new styling elements from recent VW models. Highlights include the modern headlights integrated into the new grille, accompanied by a full-width LED bar. The bumper now has a more sculpted look, reminiscent of the smaller VW Saveiro truck, and there’s a fresh design for the alloy wheels. Minor updates are expected at the rear, focusing on taillight graphics.

Volkswagen has not disclosed technical details yet, but the updated Amarok is likely to retain the ladder-frame chassis of its predecessor. The grille’s small emblem suggests the continuation of the 3.0-liter turbo-diesel V6 engine, along with the smaller 2.0-liter four-cylinder turbodiesel option.

In addition to the visual enhancements, the Amarok might feature an updated chassis setup and modern technology in the cabin. Volkswagen is expected to offer both single and double-cab versions of the truck.

More details about the new VW Amarok for Latin America will be revealed in the coming weeks or months, leading up to the official debut. Since its debut, Volkswagen has produced over 740,000 units of the Amarok at the Pacheco plant, with 65 percent of the production destined for export markets outside Argentina.
