As part of its ‘In China, for China’ strategy, Volkswagen has launched the ID. Unyx, the first model from a new sub-brand. This e-SUV coupé features a progressive design, a smart human-machine interface (HMI) with a customizable 3D avatar, and a range of over 600 kilometers.

The entry-level ID. Unyx is powered by a 210 kW (286 PS) electric motor on the rear axle with a 77 kWh battery, achieving up to 621 km according to the China Light-Duty Test Cycle (CLTC). An all-wheel-drive version with two electric motors offers 250 kW (340 PS).

Key design elements include LED matrix headlights, a horizontal LED strip, and a powerdome. The sleek silhouette features a sharp character line, while the sporty rear end has 3D LED tail lights and an illuminated horizontal strip with Volkswagen lettering.

Aimed at young customers in China’s cities, the ID. Unyx sub-brand will have 40 exclusive stores in 20 cities, where potential buyers can experience the vehicle through virtual and augmented reality.

Stefan Mecha, CEO of Volkswagen Brand China, said: “With the new ID. Unyx, we are expanding our electric ID. models in China with an avant-garde product. We combine confident, progressive design with sustainable electric drive and a state-of-the-art user experience. This matches the pulse of the times. Intelligently networked electric models like the ID. Unyx attract young, lifestyle-oriented customers and retain existing ones.”

The ID. Unyx’s innovative HMI includes an interactive, AI-based 3D avatar, customizable via an app and synchronizable with the vehicle HMI. The avatar can be personalized with a human voice for interactions.

Volkswagen plans to expand the ID. Unyx lineup with four more models by 2026, including SUVs and sedans. The ID. Unyx is central to Volkswagen’s plan to introduce 34 new models in China by 2030, aiming to strengthen its position in the market. This includes 16 new electric ID. models, 12 new combustion engine models, and six new plug-in hybrids.

Developed and manufactured at Volkswagen's innovation center in Hefei, eastern China, the ID. Unyx represents the latest generation of smart electric vehicles for the local market.
