Toyota has initiated testing of a new hydrogen-powered truck in collaboration with Coca-Cola, integrating the vehicle into the beverage company's supply chain operations.

The hydrogen truck features Toyota's fuel cell modules that combine hydrogen (H₂) and oxygen (O₂) to produce water and generate electricity, resulting in zero tailpipe emissions aside from water. Additionally, the truck benefits from fast refueling, which enhances its operational efficiency.

The hydrogen for this project is supplied by Air Liquide, a company specializing in the production and distribution of low-carbon and renewable hydrogen. This partnership underscores the importance of developing both vehicles and infrastructure concurrently to achieve a more sustainable society.

Toyota aims to support the decarbonization of heavy-duty road transport through these hydrogen truck initiatives. This sector represents a significant portion of European freight transport, accounting for a quarter of transport based on tonne-kilometres. The high hydrogen demand and usage patterns of commercial trucks make them pivotal in advancing sustainable hydrogen infrastructure.

This collaboration with Coca-Cola exemplifies Toyota’s commitment to promoting and contributing to the establishment of carbon-neutral societies in Europe and beyond.
