Last week, Xiaomi unveiled a prototype of a super-fast version of its SU7 sedan, dubbed the SU7 Ultra. Boasting 1,548 horsepower and a 0-60 mph time of under two seconds, this super sedan is Xiaomi CEO Lei Jun’s attempt to challenge established automotive giants, particularly on the Nürburgring Nordschleife.
The SU7 Ultra is not just a prototype; Xiaomi confirms that a production version will soon hit Chinese roads. According to CarNewsChina, Jun announced that production will begin in the first half of 2025, with some modifications to reduce costs. While the full carbon fiber body will be replaced, the car will still feature the Ultra’s updated design, including the large spoiler and wide haunches.

The tri-motor setup and racing-oriented battery pack will remain. The car will be available in two trims: regular and track versions. Jun stated that the car will be pricier than the standard SU7 but still affordable.
This swift transition from announcement to production is impressive. In contrast, many other manufacturers have overpromised and even canceled their EV sports car plans.
