Toyota is addressing a significant recall for 2022-2023 Tundra and Lexus LX owners. In May, the automaker recalled certain Tundra and LX600 vehicles with the twin-turbocharged 3.4-liter V-6 engine due to debris in the engine from the manufacturing process. Initially, a fix was not available, but now Toyota has decided to replace the engines entirely.
The recall affects 102,092 vehicles—98,568 Tundras and 3,524 LX600s. The debris issue is severe enough to cause the main bearings for the crankshaft to fail, which poses significant safety risks if it happens while driving. Although no injuries have been reported, there are 824 engine warranty claims potentially related to this issue.
Toyota will replace the engines at no cost to owners. The recall applies to Tundras built from November 2, 2021, through February 13, 2023, and Lexus LX600s from July 30, 2021, through November 25, 2022. Toyota will notify owners directly by the end of July, but concerned owners can contact Toyota for more information.
