Ford has announced that the 2024 Mustang Mach-E GT can receive a "performance upgrade" either at purchase or later. This upgrade, a one-time option, uses advanced powertrain thermal modeling and control algorithms to add an extra 100 lb-ft (135 Nm) of torque.
Ford claims this boost allows the electric crossover to accelerate from 0-60 mph (0-96 km/h) in 3.3 seconds and complete a quarter mile in 11.8 seconds at 114 mph (183 km/h). These figures make the Mach-E GT faster than the Tesla Model Y Performance, although the Mach-E GT starts at $54,995 before the upgrade, while the Tesla begins at $51,490.
The cost of the upgrade wasn't explicitly stated, but a video suggests it is $995 before taxes. In comparison, Mercedes offers flexibility with its EQE and EQS models, where customers can pay monthly, annually, or for a lifetime to unlock additional horsepower. For example, EQE customers can get an extra 60 hp (45 kW) for $60 per month, $600 per year, or $1,950 for the lifetime of the vehicle, and EQS owners can add 80 hp (60 kW) for $90 per month, $900 per year, or $2,950 for life.
While Ford’s one-time upgrade option lacks the flexibility of Mercedes’ plans, it provides a notable performance boost for the Mustang Mach-E GT.
