Volkswagen is bringing games to its cars. The automaker plans to add casual multiplayer games to several of its models, including electric vehicles and traditional cars.

Drivers and passengers will get to play games on the car's infotainment screen using their smartphones as controllers. VW partnered with AirConsole, a gaming platform, to make this happen.

The company will roll out this feature in some European markets by mid-September. It'll be available in models like the ID.7, ID.5, ID.4, ID.3, Passat, Tiguan, Golf, and Golf Estate.

Here's how it works: When the car is parked, people can scan a QR code on the screen. This turns their smartphones into game controllers. The games will show up on VW's Active Info Display.

VW sees this as a way to keep people entertained during downtime, especially when charging electric vehicles. Even rear passengers can join in on the multiplayer games.

It's worth noting that Volkswagen isn't the first car company to do this. BMW started using AirConsole in their cars last year.

AirConsole isn't just for cars. People can also use it on desktop web browsers, Android TV, Google TV, and Amazon Fire TV.

VW plans to add more games and expand to more areas in the future. So, the next time you're waiting for your electric car to charge, you might be able to squeeze in a quick game or two.
