The company cut the price of the VF9 Eco from $83,000 to $71,000, a reduction of $12,000. The VF9 Plus saw an even bigger drop, going from $91,000 to $75,000 – that's $16,000 less. These prices include a $1,200 destination and handling fee.
VinFast first announced the VF9 in August 2022. They planned to start deliveries in the fourth quarter of 2023 but that got pushed back to this month.
The VF9 comes in two versions: Eco and Plus. Both have a 123 kWh battery and dual electric motors that put out 402 horsepower and 457 lb-ft of torque. The car can go from 0 to 62 mph in about 6.5 seconds and can charge from 10% to 70% in 35 minutes.
The Eco version can go 330 miles on a single charge, while the Plus can do 291 miles. The Eco has 20-inch wheels, and the Plus comes with 21-inch wheels standard, with 22-inch wheels as an option.
VinFast's price cuts make the VF9 more competitive with Tesla's Model X. The Model X starts at $79,990, but after a $7,500 federal EV tax credit, it costs just over $70,000. The Model X All-Wheel Drive can go from 0 to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds and has a range of 335 miles.
On paper, the VF9 looks pretty good, much like the smaller VF8 model did. But the VF8 didn't sell as well as VinFast hoped. The company expects these price cuts will help them sell more VF9s.
