Chinese battery manufacturer CATL recently revealed plans to expand its Evogo battery swap network across China. This announcement was made during the 2024 World Power Battery Conference held in Yibin, China.

CATL introduced its Evogo battery swap solution back in 2022. The company has mapped out a clear expansion plan which includes adding 500 new stations across 50 cities by the end of 2025. By 2026, CATL aims to establish an additional 1,500 stations in over 70 cities and another 3,000 stations by the following year.

The largest network currently is in Xiamen, where there are 12 operational stations serving a population of approximately five million people. This detail was shared recently via an Evogo Weibo post.

Gao Huan, CTO at CATL, emphasized the transformative potential of expanding their network. "Our goal is not merely about quantity but also offering higher quality and convenience for our users," Gao stated at the conference.

This expansion plan situates CATL within a global movement toward adopting more environmentally friendly transportation alternatives. Other regions like Europe and Africa are noticing similar trends with companies like Fuso eCanter and Spiro initiating battery-swapping initiatives.

Notably, other Asian giants such as Gogoro and Nio have taken significant strides in this direction too. Nio has integrated its swapping solutions with national grids as of last year and has started setting up shop in Norway.
