While VW has discontinued the Passat sedan in the US and only offers a wagon version in Europe, the Chinese market still has a strong demand for sedans. That's why VW and its joint venture partner SAIC are introducing this new model.
The Passat Pro's interior will have three screens. There's an 11.6-inch display for the front passenger, a 15.0-inch infotainment screen, and a 10.3-inch digital instrument cluster. Most controls will be touchscreen-based, with few physical buttons.
Under the hood, the Passat Pro will offer a turbocharged 2.0-liter gas engine. It'll produce 220 horsepower and will be paired with a seven-speed, dual-clutch automatic transmission. The car will have front-wheel drive. VW also plans to add a 1.5-liter engine option with 160 horsepower later.
Volkswagen Passat Pro (Chinese market)
The new Passat Pro will debut at the 2024 Chengdu Motor Show. Sales are set to start before the end of 2024. For a while, VW will sell both the old Passat and the new Passat Pro side by side.
In China, VW offers several sedan models through its joint ventures. With SAIC, they'll produce the Passat Pro. Their partnership with FAW brings us the Magotan. Other VW sedans in China include the Lamando L, Phideon, CC, Sagitar, Bora, and Lavida.
