Volvo gets ready to unveil its new electric SUV, the EX60, in 2026. The car will be the first to use Volvo's advanced new platform, which promises high scalability and cutting-edge computing technology.

The EX60 will take the place of the XC60, Volvo's best-selling car and a family favorite. Björn Annwall, Volvo's financial chief, explained the importance of this move:

"It's going to be a huge boost, a step change in our electrification journey."

Annwall also called the XC60 the "heart of the Volvo model portfolio," highlighting how crucial the EX60 will be for the company's future.

The new SUV will use Volvo's SPA3 platform. Anders Bell, Volvo's R&D boss, shed some light on what this means:

"It's a big step from a mechanical perspective, but from a software electronics perspective, it's a straight evolution. All the work we're putting into EX90 will go directly into the SPA3 cars as well. It's basically the same software stack. SPA3 is designed from the beginning to be much more scalable, in size and price point and across regions, but also scalable in volume."

The EX60 will use the same software stack as the larger EX90 and the upcoming ES90 saloon. This "Volvo Cars Superset" promises to bring advanced computing power to the new electric SUV.

As for the look of the EX60, it will likely be about the same size as the current XC60. The design will probably borrow elements from both the smaller EX30 and the larger EX90. The EX60 will sit between these two models in Volvo's electric lineup.
