Before this, Uber drivers with Teslas had to juggle between their phones and the car's system. They'd get trip details on their phones but then have to type the destination into the Tesla's navigation or keep glancing at their phones for directions. It wasn't ideal.
Now, things are much simpler. Uber says:
"Enjoy bigger and bolder navigation. Once you accept a trip request on your phone, pickup and dropoff info will be sent to your Tesla screen automatically."
This means drivers can keep their eyes on the road and the big Tesla screen instead of fiddling with their phones.
But that's not all. Uber's also added a smart feature for Tesla drivers. They can now turn on "battery-aware matching." With this on, drivers will only get trip requests they can handle with their current battery level. No more worrying about running out of juice mid-trip.
To get these new features, drivers need to connect their Uber app to their Tesla. It's pretty straightforward: 1. Go to Menu > Account > Vehicles in the Uber app 2. Find your Tesla under Eligible Vehicles and hit Connect 3. Choose Continue to Tesla 4. Log into your Tesla account 5. Tick the boxes for Vehicle Information and Vehicle Commands, then hit Allow
Tesla and Uber aren't stopping there. They're also working together in New York City to figure out the best spots for new charging stations. This makes sense, as lots of Uber drivers in the Big Apple are using Teslas.
