Volkswagen is hiking prices on most of its gas and diesel models in Germany. The company will raise prices by 2.1 to 4.2 percent starting September 12, 2024.

This marks the second price increase for VW's ICE-powered lineup in Germany, following a similar move in spring 2023. The entire 2025 model year range will see higher prices, except for the Polo.

According to German magazine kfz-betrieb, the news was announced in a letter to local VW dealers.

The Taigo crossover will get the smallest bump of €490 ($541), while the Touareg SUV tops the list with a €2,490 ($2,790) increase. VW's popular Golf hatchback faces the steepest percentage hike at 4.2%, costing €1,150 ($1,270) more.

VW hasn't stopped at just raising vehicle prices. They've also upped the cost of equipment options like sunroofs, spare wheels, upgraded infotainment systems, head-up displays, and other optional packages and services.

These price hikes come as Volkswagen grapples with financial challenges. The company faces potential shutdowns of German plants due to slow car sales. This situation seems to have worsened since a few months ago when Achim Schaible, Chairman and Spokesman of the Board of Management of Volkswagen Germany, said price increases weren't necessary.

VW's ID family of electric vehicles won't see price changes for now, as they're sold under a different dealer model. However, future changes in EV pricing can't be ruled out.
