Audi has quietly announced plans to eliminate the “current” version of their rental car program. Known as Audi on Demand, the program traces its roots back to 2012 when it was then called Silvercar.

Silvercar originally focused on renting A4s and Audi made a $28 million investment into the company in 2016. The automaker acquired the firm two years later and rebranded the service as Audi on Demand in 2022.

Audi will no longer accept reservations beyond the end of this month. A message on the program’s website thanked customers and hinted that the service could return in the future. The reason for the shutdown remains unclear, but the program operated in select states, including Florida, Texas, New Jersey, Kentucky, and Massachusetts, offering rentals from four hours to 30 days through app-based booking.

Currently, Audi North Austin is still offering rentals, with prices for the Q7 starting at $108 per day. While other models like the A5 and Q5 Sportback were listed, they were unavailable at the time of writing. Audi's rental fleet mainly consists of these three models, which aligns with the recent facelift for the Q7 and upcoming redesigns for the A5 and Q5.

The program’s future remains uncertain, but Audi’s message leaves the door open for a possible relaunch down the line.
