This move gives GM EV drivers access to over 17,800 Tesla Superchargers. It's a big deal for EV owners, who often struggle to find reliable fast charging stations on long trips.
To use the Superchargers, GM EV owners must purchase a GM-approved NACS DC adapter. It costs $225 in the US and $310 CAD (about $228 US) in Canada. Owners can buy the adapter through their brand's apps.
Customers will be able to also use the same apps to locate available Tesla Superchargers, check station status, initiate a charge, and pay for charging sessions.
GM's approach differs from Ford's. Ford is giving away adapters to its EV owners until September 30. GM decided to charge for theirs instead.
With this move, GM EV owners can now access more than 231,800 public chargers in the US and Canada. That includes both Level 2 and DC fast chargers.
Looking ahead, GM plans to add native NACS ports to its EVs starting in 2025. However, the highly anticipated Cadillac Escalade IQ won’t have one at launch as it was introduced shortly after the decision to adopt the new charging standard.
