Renault launched the Arkana in 2021. The car quickly became a hit in the compact SUV market. It stood out with its SUV coupé style and competitive pricing. Renault has made more than 250,000 Arkana and XM3 models (the Arkana's Korean counterpart) so far.
The decision to stop making the Arkana comes as a surprise. The car has been doing well, competing strongly against rivals like the Peugeot 3008. It's helped Renault boost its presence in the compact SUV segment.
So why is Renault stopping production? According to Les Numeriques, the company is making room for new models at its Busan plant. These new cars will use platforms from Geely, the Chinese automaker that now owns over 34% of Renault Korea (formerly known as Renault Samsung Motors).
The first of these new models will be the Grand Koleos. It's part of Renault's plan to refresh its lineup with Geely-based vehicles.
For now, Renault hasn't announced a direct replacement for the Arkana. This move might leave a gap in Renault's SUV coupé offering, potentially giving an edge to competitors in this popular segment.
