The plan started in August when Hyundai Motor Group told the government they wanted to help with firefighting equipment. The National Fire Agency liked the idea and suggested using Hyundai Rotem's multipurpose unmanned vehicle as a base for a fire suppression vehicle.
This month, after more talks and a demonstration, both sides agreed to work together on the robot. The Fire Agency wants to try out a prototype in the first half of next year. By the end of 2026, they plan to give updated versions to special firefighting teams across the country.
The robot will use Hyundai Rotem's unmanned vehicle platform. It'll have water cannons and be built to handle high heat. Firefighters will control it from a safe distance, making it great for fires in tight or dangerous spots underground.
This robot solves a big problem. Fires in underground parking lots, especially those involving electric cars, are tough and risky for human firefighters to deal with. The robot can go where people can't, making the job safer and more effective.
